The Product Line Manager is responsible for both product planning and product marketing. This includes managing the product throughout the product lifecycle, gathering and prioritizing product and customer requirements, defining the product vision, and working closely with engineering, to deliver winning products. It includes working with sales, marketing and support to ensure revenue and customer satisfaction goals are met. The PLMs job also includes ensuring that the product and marketing efforts support the company’s overall strategy and goals.

The Product Line Manager is expected to:

  • Act as the leader and primary spokesperson for the product line
  • Define the product strategy and roadmap
  • Deliver MRDs and PRDs with prioritized features and corresponding justification
  • Work with external third parties to assess partnerships and licensing opportunities
  • Be an expert with respect to the competition
  • Develop the core positioning and messaging for the product
  • Perform product demos to customers
  • Set pricing to meet revenue and profitability goals
  • Deliver a monthly revenue forecast
  • Develop sales tools and collateral
  • Propose an overall budget to ensure success
  • Brief and train the sales force at quarterly sales meetings
  • Brief press and analysts and go on press tours


  • Minimum 5 years of experience as a Product Manager or Product Marketing Manager
  • 10+ years in the embedded software, semiconductor, Enterprise Networking or M2M/IoT Platforms area
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated success defining and launching excellent products
  • Bachelor’s degree in a technical field such as Engineering or Computer Science, MBA preferred
  • Technical background, with experience in Computer Networking, Cellular, Wi-Fi/BT M2M Technologies, IOT, Enterprise Application Integration
  • Excellent teamwork skills
  • Proven ability to influence cross-functional teams without formal authority
  • Must be able to travel 30-40% of the time
  • Examples and at least one sample of an effective new product delivered in the past

  • Understand, analyze and modify existing subsystems and work with large bodies of software code.

Skills and Competencies

  • Experience with HTML 5 a must.

  • Demonstrated experience in TCP/IP protocols (Sockets, IPv4, IPv6, TCP, UDP, ICMP, QOS, etc.).
  • Advanced knowledge of multi-threaded embedded application software including but not limited to network protocol stacks and implementing communication systems.
  • Experience in at least one embedded Linux distribution is needed (Commercial – MontaVista Linux, Wind River Linux, Timesys Linux or Open Source – buildroot, OpenEmbedded, uClinux).

Reporting to the Vice President of Operations, you will proactively lead and manage the product forecasting and supply management processes to ensure the availability of products to support customer requirements and support business revenue objectives while maintaining inventory levels in line with financial goals.

Key Responsibilities:

  • While collaborating with Sales Operations and Product Marketing, lead and manage the product forecasting process
  • Manage the supply of product in support of customer demand and company revenue targets
  • Coordinate the planning of imports and exports with the manager of logistics to support logistics expense goals
  • Manage inventory turns in line with financial goals and objectives
  • Manage local and remote staff according to corporate policy and in support of departmental goals and objectives
  • Manage global supplier relationships
  • Manage resources necessary to support product rework and RMA activity
  • Collaborate with the Manager of NPI on New Product Introductions
  • Collaborate with Product Marketing on product EOL
  • Ensure the ongoing development of staff to keep the team up to date on supply and demand planning practices and sourcing strategies

Desired Skills and Competencies:

  • 10+ years of Supply Demand Planning in the high tech industry
  • 10+ years of global outsourced manufacturing experience
  • Experience managing a global staff
  • Experience in global supplier relationship management
  • Experience with Oracle or SAP ERP systems
  • Demonstrated success in advanced demand planning
  • Knowledge of or experience with both “push” and “demand flow” methodologies.
  • Knowledgeable in CPFR techniques a plus
  • APICS CPIM and CSCP certifications a plus
